Casinos, either state or tribal, are not owned in the state of Tennessee. However, after the signing of the HB1 bill, TN online sports betting is now available – and only available – via online platforms and sports betting apps.
The bill was enacted on July 1st, 2019, but there have been heavy delays getting mobile sports betting off the ground.
Current Status of Online Gambling in TN
The Tennessee Education Lottery Corporation and its board are in charge of creating the rules and regulations needed to allowing gambling in TN. The law also mandates the creation of a 9 member lottery corporation sports wagering advisory council.
And this is taking some time. But the good news is that it seems that TN is moving slowly but deliberately to be an online-only gambling state.
Physically going to a sportsbook to place bets is not only remains illegal but is also impossible, as there are no land-based casinos or sportsbooks in the state.
