William Hill Sports Betting App Launches in Iowa

In the business world, timing can mean everything. For the William Hill app, the time is right to expand its market share in the state of Iowa.

Iowa sports betting was one of the few states that still required people to sign-up for an app at an actual retail sportsbook. When state lawmakers paved the way for legal sports betting in 2019, both retail betting in casinos and racetracks was permitted.

Mobile betting by phone was also part of the gambling expansion plan with one caveat. Sports bettors first needed to create an online betting account at a land-based sportsbook. Unfortunately, a large portion of the state’s population is located hours away from an available outlet and will have to decide among the likes of platforms like Betthouse or Betly.

The law on the books called for this requirement to expire 18 months after sports betting was first legalized. The expiration date just so happened to be Jan. 1, 2021. Iowa online casinos, however, appear to be taking longer to establish.

William Hill did not waste anytime in capitalizing on this significant change. The company announced that it was launching its enhanced William Hill Sports Book app and website in the Hawkeye State, along with the likes of Elite Sportsbook, on New Year’s Day.

Anyone within the state’s borders could immediately register for a new betting account online.

This app creates a seamless online betting experience. It was designed to make finding betting options easy and quick. Placing bets and tracking them is also extremely easy to do.

Their app is also one of the more comprehensive sports betting apps in the US market. There are options for live in-game wagering through the company’s proprietary online betting platform.

There are a number of easy ways to fund an online betting account as well as requesting a withdrawal. In Iowa, a few of the common banking options include debit cards, online banking apps, eCheck, PayPal, and PayNearMe (deposits). Players can also use a William Hill Prepaid Play+ card.

Prior to releasing the betting app, William Hill’s business presence in Iowa consisted of six retail sportsbooks. This list includes Harrah’s Council Bluffs and Horseshoe Council Bluffs. Two other locations are Isle Casino Hotel Bettendorf and Isle Casino Hotel Waterloo.

The company also operated a retail book in Lakeside Hotel & Casino as well as Prairie Meadows Racetrack & Casino.

Heading into 2021, William Hill offers its mobile sports betting apps in seven different states plus the District of Columbia. Along with Iowa, this list consists of the following:

The company launched its first mobile betting app in 2012. This was prior to legal US betting with the exception of Nevada sportsbooks in May of 2018. William Hill still powers the mobile app for the Rhode Island Lottery.

New sports betting customers in Iowa can qualify for a risk-free sports bet up to $500 when they first fund their William Hill online betting account. The betting app can be downloaded on any Apple or Android device. It can also be downloaded directly from the William Hill website.

William Hill US currently operates more than 160 retail operations covering 14 different states. Company records state that it processes one in every four legal sports bets placed in the US.
