Wyoming Sports Betting

Updated:

Wyoming sports betting is live! FanDuel and DraftKings are just two of the operators currently in the state, with more sure to come. Don’t miss out on sportsbook welcome offers that are available below for new customers.

A bill was proposed in 2020, but that piece of legislation was narrowly defeated, ending any hope of sports betting.

Wyoming online sports betting is expected to be included in any final law, especially since there are no commercial casinos in the state. Native American tribes do operate Wyoming casinos, and these properties would be able to offer sports betting as well.

This is not a state that is known for its sports, but the ability to make money from sports is what intrigued lawmakers.

The most recent proposal allows for an unlimited number of sports betting options, and Wyoming online sports betting is also included. Tribal casinos would be able to offer retail betting, but that is likely the only in-person option that will be available.

Even though Wyoming is not a very populated state, there will likely be some interest from sportsbooks that simply want to offer betting in every possible market.

WY Sports Betting Rules

There aren’t any professional teams in Wyoming, and the University of Wyoming is the only major college football team. It’s unclear if WY sports betting will allow for betting on collegiate events, but it was banned in the initial proposal that failed in 2020.

Football will likely be the most popular sport to bet on when WY sports betting launches, but Native American tribes would have plenty of freedom to choose betting markets.

Wyoming Sports Betting Regulations

In 2020, Bill H 225 was introduced by a pair of lawmakers seeking to legalize both retail and online WY sports betting. That bill was introduced in the House, and that group voted against the bill by a close margin just a few days after it was introduced.

This bill allows an unlimited number of licenses to be available, and the licensing fees were extremely cheap compared to other states. Native American tribes that offer Class III gaming would have been allowed to offer betting as well.

Summary

It appears that there is some real momentum in 2021 to get Wyoming sports betting up and running. Gaining enough support from lawmakers is the most important step, but it seems like most residents in the state want this to happen.

Wyoming sports betting would likely drive the market as there aren’t any commercial casinos available. Allowing online-only operators to obtain a sports betting license could provide plenty of great options for bettors.

There is still work left to do, but Wyoming sports betting is a real possibility.
