A new season of college basketball tips off on Wednesday, Nov. 25 to give sports bettors an early start to the extended Thanksgiving holiday weekend. This is one of the biggest betting weekends of the year. Kicking off a new season of college hoops could result in some record sports betting handles all across the US market.

The top priority for getting a new season of college hoops off the ground is the health and safety of players, coaches, and the rest of a team’s staff. One prominent Connecticut casino has stepped up its game to help the cause.

Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, CT. decided to create a safe and protected playing environment for the start of the season. Using the Mohegan Sun Arena as the primary game venue, it has planned out an 11-day schedule covering 45 games from Nov. 25 to Dec. 5

All told, 30 different men’s and women’s basketball teams will be featured. Host teams from the University of Connecticut will join a wide cross-section of teams from around the country. This entire event is hosted by the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame and the Gazelle Group.

Known as the Mohegan Sun Bubbleville, this could set the stage for more controlled-environment play later in the season. All the teams and event staff will adhere to tribal, government, and NCAA health and safety protocols to make sure everything goes off without a hitch.

Among the men’s basketball teams playing games in Bubbleville are the No. 2 Baylor Bears, No. 3 Villanova Wildcats, and the No. 4 Virginia Cavaliers.

Women’s basketball will be represented by the No. 3 Connecticut Huskies, No. 5 Louisville Cardinals, and the No. 6 Mississippi State Bulldogs.

Mohegan Sun’s Bubbleville will also be the host site for some early holiday basketball tournaments. This list includes:

  • 2K Empire Classic
  • Roman Legends Classic
  • Air Force Reserve Tip-Off
  • Basketball Hall of Fame Women’s Challenge
  • Jimmy V Women’s Challenge

There will also be some individual games on the slate to fill in the tournament gaps. Certain games will be broadcast live on the ESPN network of stations as well as FOX Sports. This includes more than 15 games. The other games will be streamed live on FloHoops.

Opening day men’s action features Virginia vs. Maine and Florida vs. UMass Lowell in the afternoon time slots. Nighttime action pits Villanova against Boston College and Arizona State against Baylor in the first round of the 2K Empire Classic.

The winners of those two games will face one another on Thanksgiving night in the championship game. The other two teams will play a consolation game.

The Hall of Fame Women’s Challenge is scheduled to get underway on Saturday, Nov. 28. In a 10 a.m. (ET) morning start, Mississippi State will square off against Maine. This will be followed by a matchup between UConn and Quinnipiac. Get more news and insights like this article on the Metrobet platform.

The consolation and championship game of that tournament will take place on Sunday afternoon.

Everyone involved in the Mohegan Sun Bubbleville has high hopes for the entire event, including US sportsbooks such as DraftKings and FanDuel. This could provide a huge betting boost to the new college basketball season.
