New Jersey Sports Betting Apps Continue to Expand

New Jersey is clearly the sports betting capital of the East Coast. It continues to close the gap with Nevada in the race to be the biggest sports betting state in the country. One of the biggest driving forces is betting online through mobile apps, i.e. Unibet’s app.

The New Jersey market continues to expand. The total gambling handle for this August was its largest ever at $668 million. Sports betting played a major role in that record month.

The Garden State currently offers sports betting through 11 retail books. This includes the Atlantic City casinos and horse racing tracks such as the Meadowlands and Monmouth Park. Notice, that Zensports app is not on this list.

There are currently 18 different apps available to bet on sports through a mobile device. Plans are in the works to add even more apps in the coming weeks and months.

The first on the list is Tipico. Get the Tipico bonus code or alternatively, read the Tipico review for some more details. The app has already gained regulatory approval for soft-play mobile sports betting from the Division of Gaming Enforcement (DGE). The app will operate through the Ocean Casino Resort gaming license.

The soft-play phase involves a five-day testing period. No word has been given as to Tipico’s plans to go live on a 24/7 basis. As a well-established book based in Germany, this will be its first venture in the US market. It has opened its US office in Hoboken, NJ.

Joachim Baca is the CEO at Tipico Group. He made the following comments in a recent company press release:

At Tipco, we are truly passionate about enhancing the thrill of sport, bringing fans even closer to the game they love. Regulatory approval from the state of New Jersey is another significant step toward introducing US consumers to our unique sports betting platform.

Another horse racing track in New Jersey is Freehold Raceway. They are rather late to the party considering that the Meadowlands sportsbook was up and running in June of 2018. However, the general feeling is better late than never. The in-track book is called Parx Sportsbook at Freehold Raceway.

The track started taking sports wagers on Sept. 24. This was considered to be a soft opening with very little public fanfare. Owned and operated by Penn National and Greenwood Racing, no word of any actual grand opening celebration has been released.

Monmouth Park has operated a sportsbook since 2018 as well under the William Hill brand. It is located just 30 minutes from Freehold Raceway. This creates the need for mobile access to sports betting and mobile apps such as the 888 app.

Under the terms of Freehold’s sports betting license, it can offer up to three online brands. The Parx sportsbook and its app should occupy one of those skins.

Penn National’s equity stake in Barstool Sports opens the door to the Barstool Sportsbook app. This has already made an impressive debut in other states. A Freehold skin opens the door to enter the lucrative New Jersey market.

The recent announcement of Caesars Entertainment’s pending purchase of William Hill could have some major impacts on the state. William Hill currently operates sportsbooks in four Atlantic City casinos.

It appears that plans are already in the works for a Caesars Sportsbook by William Hill app.
