Sports betting in upstate New York casinos has been legal since 2019. As one of two professional sports teams in that area, the NHL’s Buffalo Sabres have been a very popular betting team at retail sportsbooks in that part of the state.

With the launch of legal online sports betting in New York this past January, betting on Sabres’ games is now available statewide. Adding to the team’s appeal to in-state fans and bettors alike is a recently formed partnership with FanDuel.

Buffalo Sabres Choose Fan Duel as Official Sports Betting Partner

Given the overnight success of mobile sports betting in the Empire State, marketing sponsorships with professional New York teams has been in high demand. The Buffalo Sabres went right to the top of the list in selecting FanDuel as the team’s Official Sports Betting Partner.

A total of nine US-based sportsbook operators have been approved to offer their mobile betting app in the state. FanDuel headlined that list as the biggest operator in the legal US industry in terms of market share.

As part of this multi-year agreement, FanDuel now has the right to use official Sabres marks and team logos as part of its advertising and marketing efforts. The deal also includes high-impact signage at KeyBank Center as the team’s home ice.

As an added perk, FanDuel will gain exclusive integrations into all pregame, in-game, intermissions and postgame broadcasts. This integration includes betting-related content in each of those different broadcast segments.

FanDuel’s “Sabres Correct Score Bonus” Promotion

A key aspect of FanDuel’s integration with the team is promotional properties aimed at fan engagement. The deal with Buffalo includes a fan-related collaboration to promote the FanDuel brand.

The introductory “Sabres Correct Score Bonus” gave fans the ability to place a pregame wager of $25 or more predicting the actual score of the game. Participating fans received a $5 bonus in FanDuel Sportsbook betting credit for each goal the winning team scored.

Dan Misko is the Senior Vice President of Business Development for Pegula Sports and Entertainment. This is the company that owns the Buffalo Sabres franchise. Commenting on the FanDuel partnership, he stated:

“We’re proud to expand our relationship with FanDuel and extend its engaging content to Sabres fans. We are looking forward to a successful collaboration with FanDuel for many years to come.”

With the UK’s Flutter Entertainment as FanDuel’s parent company, this US-based sportsbook continues to lead the way in the marketplace. As Chief Marketing Officer for FanDuel Group, Mike Raffensperger added:

“On the heels of brining America’s #1 Sportsbook to the great state of New York, we’re excited to partner with the Sabres to infuse sports betting content into the hockey viewing experience.”

Buffalo’s NHL franchise joins a growing list of strategic partnerships with sports leagues, individual teams and media properties.

With origins as a daily fantasy sports site and now a sportsbook, FanDuel has created a business presence in all 50 US states. The company has more than 12 million customers in the US gaming market.
