DraftKings Opens Baton Rouge Retail Sportsbook

Legal mobile sports betting is up and running in Louisiana. DraftKings was one of the first mobile sportsbook apps to go live in that state earlier this year.

Legal betting in Louisiana actually first went live last November in select land-based casinos with retail sportsbooks. Given the extensive network of casinos in the state, sports betting through retail sportsbook locations continues to attract quite a bit of business from avid sports fans.

DraftKings Latest Louisiana Retail Sportsbook

As one of the biggest mobile operators in the legal US market, DraftKings remains committed to expanding the brand in markets with retail sportsbook capabilities. Case in point is the new DraftKings Sportsbook at Hollywood Casino Baton Rouge.

This will be DraftKings’ second retail sportsbook in the state. Louisiana now has 11 retail sportsbooks overall. The retail book at Hollywood is housed in a temporary location for the time being. Plans call for a much more expansive facility for betting on all the games.

The launch of the permanent retail sportsbook at the casino is set for sometime in 2023. This facility will be equipped with 20 sports betting kiosks located throughout 38,000 square feet of space. There will also be three permanent betting windows as a focal point for placing wagers.

Terry Downey is the CEO of CQ Holding Company as the ownership group behind Hollywood Casino. He commented on the plans as follows:

“The temporary DraftKings Sportsbook at Hollywood Casino Baton Rouge will provide customers with new, exciting ways to enjoy this historic property and we’re thrilled our expanded DraftKings partnership will offer guests their premier sports betting technology.”

He went on to add:

“We believe this temporary DraftKings Sportsbook space will lay the foundation for one of the most engaging sports viewing environments, which will be further elevated upon the opening of the proposed permanent DraftKings Sportsbook next year.”

DraftKings Business Presence in Louisiana

With the potential to become a major sports betting market in the US, Louisiana has attracted quite a bit of attention from US sportsbook operators.

Caesars Entertainment become the naming sponsor of the Louisiana Superdome and official gaming partner of LSU Athletics as the state’s biggest college sports programs.

DraftKings entered the Louisiana market last fall with a retail sports betting facility in the Golden Nugget Casino in Lake Charles. The Boston-based company now offers legal sports betting statewide through the DraftKings Sportsbook mobile betting app.

Retail Sports Betting in Louisiana

As a tourist destination, Louisiana casinos attract quite a few visitors during the course of a year. New Orleans tops the list but locales such as Lake Charles and Baton Rouge also do quite well. The entire Gulf Coast region of the state offers casino gambling and now legal sports betting.

The early numbers bear out the popularity of retail sportsbooks in this state. Since the first of the year, Louisiana mobile sportsbook operators have brought in $7.6 million in total revenue. They first went live towards the end of January.

Revenue figures for the state’s retail sportsbook industry tops $5.9 million since the beginning of 2022.
