Update: The fifth-ranked Georgia Bulldogs (12-2) were victorious over the seventh-ranked Baylor (11-3) in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.

The Sugar Bowl matchup is set, and it’s now time to make some Sugar Bowl betting predictions. The Georgia Bulldogs out of the Southeastern Conference will take on the Baylor Bears out of the Big 12 Conference in the Sugar Bowl. Kickoff is set for 8:45 pm ET on Jan. 1, 2020, and it will once again be played at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans.

Both Georgia and Baylor were selected to play in this game after coming up a little bit short in their respective conference championship games. Georgia and Baylor each finished the regular season with records of 11-2, and a win would have likely landed them in the College Football Playoff.

The Sugar Bowl betting spread has the Georgia Bulldogs as seven-point favorites over the Baylor Bears.

Sugar Bowl Picks

Let’s take a look at each team in the game before delivering our 2020 Sugar Bowl betting pick.

The Bulldogs have to be disappointed with their performance in the SEC Championship Game, especially scoring just 10 points in that loss. Georgia averaged more than 31 points per game this season, and quarterback Jake Fromm has proven that he can win big games.

Georgia will likely look to run the ball a lot in this game with D’Andre Swift, who has over 1,200 yards this season. Taking on a Big 12 opponent puts a lot of pressure on the Georgia defense, but that unit has allowed just 12.5 points per game this season, which was a big reason that Georgia was in the SEC Championship Game.

Quarterback Charlie Brewer passed for nearly 3,000 yards this season, and the Bears love to throw the ball. Baylor will need to find a way to establish the running game against Georgia to give Brewer some time to operate in the pocket.

The defense is one of the most underrated parts to this Baylor team, but it was the biggest reason that it advanced to the Big 12 Championship Game. The Bears gave up fewer than 20 points per game this season, but they will be in for a real test against Georgia.

Sugar Bowl Betting Prediction and Pick: The Bulldogs playing close to home will turn this stadium into a sea of red. Georgia has one of the best defenses in the country, and it will find a way to shut down the Baylor offense. Bet the Georgia Bulldogs -7.0 over the Baylor Bears in the Sugar Bowl.
