Indiana Sees Sports Betting Drop in April

Indiana had a disappointing month of April in the sports betting industry, but that was to be expected. The Hoosier State still had big numbers, and a new sportsbook has launched.

The state of Indiana is usually one of the first to announce sports betting numbers for each month. That was the case once again in April. After a massive month of March with sports betting, April saw a significant drop in the overall numbers.

The total sports betting handle in the month of April was right around $360 million. That was a drop of more than $100 million from the massive haul that came in during March. Indiana usually gives a pretty clear idea of how the rest of the country performed, and it could be a disappointing month for many states.

Despite the slow month of April, the Indiana sports betting handle still grew 52% year over year. The total sports betting handle in April 2021 was just $236 million.

Even though Indiana sportsbooks saw less action in April than in March, it was actually an impressive month for those sportsbooks. The total sports betting revenue was over $28 million, and Indiana collected $2.7 million in tax revenue.

FanDuel Sportsbook was once again the sportsbook that led the way in Indiana as it posted a total handle of $112.4 million. DraftKings was once again in second place in April with a total handle of $101.5 million.

Basketball was the popular sport to wager on in April, but that isn’t a surprise in Indiana. This sport brought in over $129 million in bets, and parlay betting was next on the list at $91.3 million.
