New York Online Gambling 2020Commercial Content | 21+ | T&Cs Apply
Gambling in New York has long been an unregulated activity and it took many years for any form of gambling to legalized by the state.
First to be legalized was horse racing. Bettors could engage in pooled betting systems and bets were only allowed at the track.
And while there are a number of land-based casinos and racetracks in the state, online gambling remains off the table.
Currently, New York residents can enjoy casino games at several NY tribal casinos, but nothing is online yet and New York sports betting is limited to in-person wagers at the upstate facilities.
Current Status of NY Online Gambling
Even though neighboring states like New Jersey and Pennsylvania have embraced online casinos and sports betting, the legalization of any kind of online gambling is still very much a work in progress in New York.
Part of the reason why New York online sports betting is taking a long time is that the governor of New York will not allow an expansion of the state’s gambling regulations within an amendment first.
Luckily for poker fans, a bill has been introduced by New York State lawmakers to allow for online poker to be played using real money legally. And if lawmakers should legalize online poker, New York online betting sites will hopefully be soon behind.
Stay tuned for updates.
