Regulated Colorado Online Gambling

Horse racing has existed legally in Colorado since the 1950s, and legal horse racing has existed in some form for a few years now. Sports betting, however, was only recently voted into law, with casinos expected to open online sports betting platforms in 2020.

As of late 2019, there’s no legislation in place to legalize online casino gaming in Colorado. This may change in the future, but for now, there isn’t talk of legalizing online casino games, nor is there any indication that online casino games are in the pipeline for Colorado.

Hopefully, as revenue from legalized sports betting increases, another look will be taken at legal online casinos in the Centennial State.

In May of 2019, Governor Jared Polis signed a bill into law allowing for a vote to take place on legalized sports betting. During the November 2019 general elections, Colorado citizens narrowly voted in favor of Proposition DD to allow casinos to offer online sports betting.

Casinos looking to offer in-person sports betting will have to wait for town-specific ballot initiatives to pass before they can offer a sportsbook at their brick-and-mortar locations. Still, this means that by May of 2020, Coloradans can expect to have access to potentially dozens of online sports betting platforms.

PointsBet may be an early mover, having already established a partnership with Double Eagle Hotel & Casino.

Horse racing betting is legal both in-person and online in Colorado. Only one track exists for any type of horse or greyhound racing, and that’s Arapahoe Racetrack in Aurora, CO. Online horse racing is legal through a number of state-licensed platforms including TVG, TwinSpires, NYRABets, and a few others.

You can visit the Colorado Department of Revenue’s website for more information regarding licensed online horse betting platforms.
