Maine Online Casinos 2024

Maine online casino gambling is not currently a betting option, and that is not expected to change anytime soon. This is a state with a very small retail casino industry, but those casinos have plenty of power.

2021 could be a big year for gambling expansion in Maine, but that would potentially come in the form of sports betting. Maine online casino gambling has not even been mentioned yet, and that will likely be the case for years to come.

The launch of retail or online sports betting in Maine could potentially pave the way for an online casino bill to be introduced here, but it’s unclear where lawmakers stand on the issue. This would provide some much-needed revenue to the state, but the current casinos are not willing to give up on their own revenue.

ME Online Casino Rules

Penn National Gaming and Churchill Downs Inc offer casino gambling in the state of Maine, but all of the action must be done in person. These two companies have opposed any changes to the current gambling structure, including ME online casinos.

Lawmakers are aware that these casinos are opposed to this form of betting, and that has kept them from introducing a ME online casino bill. It would require plenty of work for state legislators to create online casino rules that would be approved by those casinos.

ME Casino Regulations

SB 1352 has been introduced in Maine, and this bill could eventually offer up a chance at ME online casino gambling. This bill does not focus on the iGaming industry, but it would legalize sports betting in the state.

Lawmakers actually approved sports betting in 2020, but that bill was ultimately vetoed by Governor Mills. ME online casino gambling has never been included in any bill up to this point, and this would be the first step to legalizing the new industry.

Summary

There are going to be some states that legalize online casino gambling in 2021, but Maine will not be one of them. It doesn’t appear that Maine online casino gambling is coming in 2022 either, and it could be off the table for years to come.

The fate of the current sports betting bill that is in the legislature will likely give a pretty good idea of how an online casino gambling bill would go. Governor Janet Mills has not been in favor of a gambling expansion bill, and a change in governor might be needed before this industry becomes a reality.
