Groundhog Day Odds Say Punxsutawney Phil Won’t See Shadow

–Bookies Suggest More of Nation’s Groundhogs will Predict Early Spring–

Punxsutawney Phil has 11/4 odds to see his shadow on Groundhog Day (26.7% implied probability), according to betting aggregators US-Bookies.com (See Disclaimer Below). The odds that he does not see his shadow are 1/3 (75%), indicating a much more likely scenario. 

“The odds suggest Punxsutawney Phil won’t get much of a glimpse of his shadow this year due to the heavy cloud forecast on Groundhog Day, so we can look forward to an early spring!”  says a US-Bookies spokesperson. “That seems to be the trend for other famous groundhogs in the US, with many regions facing similar predictions.” 

The odds suggest Punxsutawney Phil won’t get much of a glimpse of his shadow this year due to the heavy cloud forecast on Groundhog Day, so we can look forward to an early spring!

Staten Island Chuck of Staten Island, New York is the most likely groundhog to see his shadow. He has 6/5 odds to do so (45.5% implied probability). Chuck’s 4/5 odds to not see his shadow (55.6%) are still stronger. 

Milltown Mel of Milltown, New Jersey has 5/4 odds to see his shadow (44.4% implied probability). His 8/11 odds to not see his shadow indicate the more likely outcome (57.9%). 

Odds also suggest Jimmy the Groundhog of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin will not see his shadow. His 1/4 odds to not see his shadow (80% implied probability) are stronger than the 18/5 odds he sees it (21.7%). 

General Beauregard Lee of Jackson, Georgia has 9/4 odds to see his shadow (30.8% implied probability). The 2/5 odds he doesn’t see it (71.4%) indicate the more likely outcome. 

Buckeye Chuck of Marion, Ohio is the least likely to see his shadow. His odds to see his shadow are 4/1 (20% implied probability), while the odds he doesn’t are 1/5 (83.3%). 

Dunkirk Dave of Chautauqua County, New York is also unlikely to see his shadow. The 3/10 odds that he doesn’t see it (76.9% implied probability) are stronger than the 3/1 odds to see it (25%).  

Thistle the Whistelpig of Cleveland, Ohio has 16/5 odds to see his shadow (23.8% implied probability). The odds he doesn’t see his shadow are 2/7 (77.8%).
