Is sports wagering legal in CT?
Federally, sports betting hasn’t been a hurdle since the summer of 2018. However, Connecticut lawmakers are playing it safe and allowing other states to forge ahead and draft sports betting regulation. To date, sports betting in here does not yet have rules in place. Big name casinos and sportsbook makers must play the wait-and-see game before committing to sports betting in CT.
One discussion that’s being had is with the local Indian tribes about exclusive rights to sports gambling. For decades, they have been permitted to operate gambling casinos with exclusivity. But now that sports betting is an open playing field, bookies, representatives, and tribes aren’t sure how to divvy it up.
When these discussions are finished (expect it to be wrapped up in early 2019), the state of Connecticut is likely to have properly defined sports betting legislation. Before then, the only legal betting you can do online is horse racing. The rest of the sports betting is illegal.
